Covid-19

Coronavirus has taken control of our lives through fear.

Although I am now a Psychotherapist and Trainer, I used to be a Medical Scientist, with specific expertise in Microbiology & Immunology,

working initially at the Medical School in Edinburgh and then heading up the Microbiology Laboratory at the Veterinary Institute at Stormont, N Ireland.

The more Control you feel you have an understanding from trusted sources, the stronger will be your decision making and assessment of some of the scare stories circulating.

Control can come from a deeper understanding of the facts.

Coronaviruses have been making people cough and sneeze for aeons. They are among the many viruses that cause the common cold.

But not all are mild-mannered.

A few severe types can lead to serious illness and deaths.

They are very, very tiny round viruses, surrounded by a halo of spiky proteins.

Under an electron microscope, this makes them look like they have a corona, similar to that of the sun…..hence the name😊

Nasal droplets can transmit the virus to hands and nearby objects which can be a further source of potential individual infection.

Touching the nose or mouth can then cause infection, but this is a much lower rate and can be effectively reduced by hand washing.

The Advantages of Personal Control

As humans, we have some control of our immune system and this is enhanced by:

  • a varied diet high in fruit (citrus) and vegetables (green)
  • Vitamin D (egg yolk, mushrooms, salmon, tuna,)
  • exercise
  • regular quality sleep
  • body/mind calming through Yoga, meditation, stress management awareness plan
  • good hygiene
  • supportive social life
  • citrus fruits, broccoli, garlic, ginger, spinach, live yoghurt, almonds, turmeric, green tea, kiwi fruit, papaya, poultry, sunflower seeds, shellfish……

We can also choose what we think and do, as well as taking the above, active steps to enhance our immunity

Positive thinking is key to positive outcomes and the only person that can initiate that is you!

Taking as much personal control as possible, and accepting what we cannot control, has the effect of relaxing the body and mind,

which allows the immune system to act even more effectively!
